Mothers Day : A Tintype Event/ Featuring a new Backdrop

Hey guys! Another yet, long over due post about some of the adventures I have been doing lately. Besides school finals happening and health, I got to have the amazing opportunity to have my very first tintype event! I have seen other WPC Photographers around the world do this, so I felt it was a bit right of passage on way with being a photographer. In this blog post it is featuring two different subjects that both fit together.

Chinoiserie Backdrop

One of the things that made the mothers day event so special, was the backdrop I used. Valentine of Valentine Viannay = Art + Design   hand sketched and hand painted a Chinoiserie style backdrop. A Chinoiserie is a recurring theme in European artistic styles since the seventeenth century, which reflect Chinese artistic influences.  When I first met with Valentine, we started talking about the style I would love for this piece, I based it off old Alfred Cheney Johnston photographs of his studio and backdrops he used.
When I got to meet with her again, I got to see the canvas she had got being stretched out on a wood frame.  I never knew what it took to create a painting or anything on canvas, so learning about how canvas was treated was new to me and fun to see. The next step was sketching out the idea. I was lucky enough to watch her work her magic (in her studio) using an orange colored pencil on the canvas and adding characteristic features later to be painted.

After that day I would get updates of her painting with photos and a video ( video doesn't play on my blog, sorry Valentine :( ) The detail is astounding!
The finished art piece is 8ft tall and 6 ft wide.
A big giant thank you to Valentine for taking the time for creating this!!

Mothers Day, A Tintype Event

On May 9th, the day before mothers day was my tintype event at Chateau Bel Age  in Mission Hills, CA. I have to say this experience has opened my eyes to all the other hard working artists out there doing their craft at art events. So many things can go wrong, but so many things can go right.  I loved meeting new people and listen to their interest in history and photography.
On this particular day on West Lewis St, they were having a Lavender Stroll. This was also a first to me and will probably now and forever be going to events on this street. A lot of the stores were having sales and interesting things to watch. I didn't get to see much of the street due to doing tintypes, but my mum walked around and loved everything.
Here are some BTS photos from the event.

The below images are some of my favorite from this event. A big warm thank you to Valerie of Chateau Bel Age  for opening her outside space of her store to me and having me there! It was a worthwhile magical experience. A another big thank you to Valentine of Valentine Viannay = Art + Design for offering me this chance and helping me every step of the way for this to be possible. And to Colleen, who created the chalkboard designs for this event!
